When I was a little girl my grandfather (Dedo in Macedonian) would sing this song to me whenever it rained.
Rain, Rain go away,
Little Diane wants to play,
Come back another day.
I must confess for a number of years I’ve sung this to my grandchildren. Based on this blog I will have to find a new song like “Singin’ in the Rain.” To get my point across to them maybe I can even talk them into watching “Singin’ in the Rain” the 1952 classic with Gene Kelly.
Have you ever been woken up in the morning to the patter of raindrops on your window? Personally I love that sound, but not everyone does. Some people would rather write a rainy day off. To them a rainy day is a crappy day. They hate getting wet, hate what the rain does to their hair and makeup and some even hate driving in it. If you are one of these people I hope you don’t live in Seattle, California or Vancouver.
I write about finding a reason to enjoy the moment. If a rainy day puts you in a bad mood you lose countless moments in just one day. Personally I haven’t met anyone who could stop the rain. So we have a choice to make. Do we change the way we think about a rainy day or do we simply write the day off?
Please don’t lose the day. Look instead for something that makes your heart sing, whether it’s indoors or outdoors. You may become so absorbed in what you are doing that the rain is no longer an issue. Please don’t knock this until you’ve tried it.
My reaction to rain happened a number of years ago. Obviously I prefer a sunny day but I realized after many years on this planet that I just can’t order that up. There is something that comes over me when it rains. I love the way the raindrops caress my face they make me feel so fortunate to be alive .
Don’t let the rain cause you to hibernate, instead allow the raindrops to beckon you out. Their invitations come as they hit the windows and rooftops right where you are. If you answer their call you will never close the door to walking in the rain again and just perhaps even a dance or two.
There are many countries in the world where rain is extremely rare. How fortunate we are to be able to embrace these moments.
I hope this puts a whole new spin on rain in your part of the world.
“Never dance in a puddle when there’s a hole in your shoe (it’s always best to take your shoes off first).”
John D. Rhodes
